The Paw Print pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. A large paw print with one big central pad and four oval toe pads fills the face of this pumpkin stencil, each pad carved as a separate pierced cutout surrounded by solid orange wall. Lit from inside, the glowing ovals float against the dark background and read instantly as a cat or dog track. Cut the four smaller toe pads first while the central pad wall is still fully intact to keep the surrounding skin from flexing and cracking during the trickier large cut. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Beginner-friendly. Estimated time: 30-45 minutes. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Larger shapes and shorter cuts. An adult should handle sharp carving tools.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
This is a cut-through stencil: the gray areas on the printable pattern are the pieces you remove, and everything white stays attached. The steps below give you the safest carving order. Plan on about 30-45 minutes from print to candle.
Set up first. Print the PDF at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper. Cut the lid at an angle, scoop the pumpkin clean, and thin the carving wall to about 1 inch where the design will sit. Tape the pattern on (snip small darts in the paper so it hugs the curve) and transfer every outline by poking dots along the lines, about one every 1/8 inch. Peel the paper away and carve dot to dot with short, straight strokes.
Carving order
- Cut the four toe pads. Remove the four oval toe pads first. Each is a simple closed curve; pierce the center, saw out to your traced line, then follow the oval around.
- Cut the main pad. Cut the large triangular pad below the toes, leaving a small tab on its flat bottom edge until the rest of the outline is complete.
- Release and clean up. Support the big pad from inside, cut the tab, and push the plug out. Shave any rough edges so all five pieces glow evenly.
Clear loose fibers out of each opening as you go, and never twist or pry the blade against the shell; back it out and recut instead. When every piece is out, wipe the cut edges dry and drop in a battery LED puck.

Beginner-friendlyWaving Whiskers Pumpkin Stencil
A seated cat in full silhouette with one front paw playfully raised, pointed ears alert, and a long fluffy tail curling up beside its body. The entire cat is cut through as a single connected opening, so the whole figure glows warmly against the evening sky. An easy carve with one caution: the raised paw and tail tip are the narrowest sections, so cut them last with short gentle strokes.
Beginner-friendlyPitter Patter Paw Pumpkin Stencil
A big glowing paw print built from four oval toe pads arranged above one broad heart-shaped main pad. All five shapes cut cleanly through the wall, and the generous spacing between pads makes the layout very forgiving. Drill a starter hole in the center of each pad and saw outward to the line; the smooth convex curves are ideal practice strokes for young or first-time carvers.
Beginner-friendlyBest Friend Paw Pumpkin Stencil
One oversized paw print fills the pumpkin: four tall oval toes arranged in an arc above a big rounded pad with a gentle notch along its top edge. Each toe and the pad are separate cut-through openings with sturdy skin bridges between them, so the print glows in five clean pieces. It is an easy, satisfying carve for pet lovers; cut the four toes first, then the large pad, angling your blade outward so each plug pushes through cleanly.
Beginner-friendlyMoonlit Mouser Pumpkin Stencil
An upright cat sits in silhouette beneath a small crescent moon, just two cut-through openings on the whole pumpkin. The cat's ears, curved back, and tail all come out as a single piece, leaving the shell dark around two clean glowing shapes. Trace the cat's outline slowly in one continuous cut and push the piece out from inside the pumpkin for the cleanest edge.
Beginner-friendlyMidnight Whiskers Pumpkin Stencil
A seated cat in profile, ears pricked and long tail curling upward, cut entirely through so the whole silhouette becomes a window of warm light. The design has no interior details, which keeps it simple, but the slender curved tail asks for a little care. An easy carve overall; save the tail for last and support the wall with your free hand as you follow its curve so the tip stays intact.
Beginner-friendlyCurly the Kitten Pumpkin Stencil
A friendly cat face built from simple shapes: two pointed ears with inner triangles, big oval eyes, a tiny triangle nose, a curled smile, and three long whiskers sweeping out from each cheek. Every element is cut through, so the whole face lights up at once. The whiskers are just narrow slits, which is why kids can manage this one; poke each slit through with the tip of the saw and lengthen it slowly.
