The Saturn pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. Saturn's ringed profile rendered in a loose, sketchy style fills this expert space pumpkin stencil, with the planet body shown as a series of jagged horizontal band cuts and the elliptical ring system sweeping through as two curving arcs, all separated by thin skin bridges that suggest atmospheric cloud layers. The ring bands are the trickiest element: each arc is a narrow, isolated strip that connects to the planet body only at two small points. Cut the planet body bands first, working from the equator outward toward the poles, then carefully score the ring arcs from their inner connection points toward the outer tips. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Expert / Pro. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Intricate details and fragile supports need patience. Technique depends on the design; follow its PDF rather than assuming multiple depth layers.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
- Begin at the planet's equatorial band, cutting the widest horizontal slot first to establish the center of the composition.
- Work outward from the equator, cutting each progressively smaller band toward the north and south poles of the planet.
- Score the inner edge of the ring arc on each side where it passes behind the planet, making a shallow cut before going all the way through.
- Cut the full inner ring arc from its attachment point on one side of the planet to the other in one smooth stroke.
- Finish with the outer ring arc on each side, cutting each narrow strip from the body connection outward to the pointed tip to avoid snapping it mid-cut.

Expert / ProDeep Space Dream Pumpkin Stencil
A sweeping spiral galaxy wraps across the entire pumpkin face, its curved arms shaved in graduated depths so the core glows brightest, while three ringed planets and scattered stars orbit the edges in raised relief. Nothing is pierced; every effect comes from continuous-wall shading at different thicknesses. Expert-level patience pays off here: establish the spiral arms as broad shallow bands first, then deepen toward the center in passes to build the luminous gradient.
Expert / ProCosmic Whirl Pumpkin Stencil
A sweeping spiral galaxy with two luminous arms curling around a bright core, surrounded by four-point stars and a scatter of small stardust dots. The entire scene is skin-shave work with no pierced holes: the arms are shaved wide and shallow while the dots and stars are picked out individually. An expert pattern because of its long tapering curves; keep your gouge moving in smooth continuous strokes along each arm.
Expert / ProThe Beaming Sunburst Pumpkin Stencil
A beaming sunburst face with closed happy crescent eyes, a small triangle nose, and a huge picket-tooth grin, all encircled by a radiating ring of alternating teardrop and triangle ray cutouts. Every ray, tooth gap, and feature pierces through, and the sheer count of small openings makes it an expert carve. Cut the outer rays in sequence around the circle first, rotating the pumpkin as you go, before opening the large mouth.
Expert / ProMoonlight Drifter Pumpkin Stencil
A ribbed jellyfish bell hovers near the top of the pumpkin, trailing eight long wavy tentacles that flow all the way to the base, with small bubbles rising on either side. The bell segments and tentacles are shaved to glowing flesh while thin strips of dark skin separate every ribbon, and the bubbles are pierced through. This expert shading design demands a steady hand; work each tentacle top to bottom in one continuous peel so the curves stay smooth and evenly lit.
Expert / ProStarlight Ridge Pumpkin Stencil
A crescent moon hangs over rolling hills dotted with pine trees, while dozens of stars and pinprick lights scatter across the sky above the treeline. The entire scene is shaved at varying depths into the pumpkin wall, with the moon and hilltops thinned the most so they glow brightest, and the trees left as dark raised skin. Rough in the hills first, then refine tree silhouettes, and finish with the star pricks last.
Expert / ProWoodland Toadstool Relief
An enchanted cluster of spotted toadstools carved in deep relief: one grand mushroom with a striped, gilled underside towers over smaller caps, ribbed stems, and leafy ground cover below. There are no pierced holes; the whole scene is sculpted by shaving the wall to different depths so light glows warmest under the big cap. This expert design rewards planning, so rough out the major cap shapes first and save the fine gill lines and spots for last.
