How to carve a weird pumpkin stencil

Weird designs often have unusual shapes with no obvious cutting order, so number the openings on the printed pattern from smallest to largest before you start. Cut in that order. Multiple eyes should be carved one at a time, leaving pumpkin between them at least as wide as the eye.

Weird pumpkins are conversation starters, so put yours where people wait, like beside the doorbell. It pairs well with a perfectly normal pumpkin for contrast.

Questions

Weird stencil questions

What are weird pumpkin stencils?+

Designs that break the usual Halloween mould: surreal faces, mutant creatures, and abstract shapes. They range from Easy to Hard depending on how many features they cram in.

How do I keep a pumpkin with lots of eyes from collapsing?+

Leave at least an inch of pumpkin between each eye and cut the eyes in a staggered order, never two neighbours in a row. Thin the wall less than usual, to about an inch and a half.

How long do weird pumpkin stencils take to carve?+

Check the individual stencil's carving guide for its time estimate. Preparation, pumpkin size, wall thickness and your experience affect the total; difficulty alone does not determine carving time.

Which weird pumpkin stencils are the easiest?+

8 of the 35 are easy, 10 of the 35 are intermediate, 10 of the 35 are hard, 7 of the 35 are expert. Compare the difficulty labels and carving guides to choose a design.

Pick a weird design, print it, and light up the porch.
