Download the Coronavirus pumpkin stencil as a free printable PDF, then tape the pattern to your pumpkin and trace the lines. This hard-difficulty pumpkin stencil depicts a coronavirus particle rendered as a circular arrangement of spike proteins: round-tipped stalks radiate outward from a central ring of crescent shapes, all cut as individual floating pieces within a large open surround. When lit, the scattered spikes and interior crescents glow as a constellation of shapes against the dark pumpkin. Carve the inner crescent cutouts at the center first, then work spike by spike outward, since removing the outer spikes early can destabilize the central ring. It works as a carving template for a Halloween jack-o'-lantern or a fall porch display. It is rated Advanced. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Fine details and narrow supports need careful planning. Follow the cutting and shading key in this designβs PDF.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
- Number or mark each spike on the transfer so you have a clear sequence before cutting.
- Carve the central crescent-shaped cutouts first, working around the inner ring.
- Begin cutting individual spike stalks starting at the 12 o'clock position and working clockwise.
- Cut each round spike tip as a separate small punch after freeing the stalk.
- Leave at least three adjacent spikes uncut on the outer ring until all inner crescents are done.
- Finish the remaining outer spikes and step back to check the radial balance before lighting.

AdvancedThe Cyclops Mask Pumpkin Stencil
A huge single eye quartered by a bold plus-shaped bar dominates this monster mask, flanked by rows of diamond cutouts down each cheek, a tiny skull-like nose, and a jagged zigzag grin along the bottom. The eye quadrants, diamonds, nose, and zigzag are all cut through, with the plus bar and diamond lattice left as connected skin. This hard design demands order: carve the four eye sections first, then diamonds from the center outward, protecting that thin cross bar throughout.
AdvancedWide-Eyed Wonder Pumpkin Stencil
A wildly ornate astonished face: two huge round eyes split by vertical bars, a tall oval mouth gaping in shock, and a halo of diamonds, dots, and curved flourishes radiating in every direction. All of it is cut through, from the barred eyes to the smallest accent dot, so the whole pumpkin erupts in patterned light. Rated hard for its piece count, work from the center outward and leave the outer diamonds and dots for the final pass.
Expert / ProThe Hypnotist Pumpkin Stencil
Two enormous hypnotic eyes built as spoked wheels, each iris divided by radial spokes around a glowing hub, ringed by halos of small diamond and teardrop cutouts with arched brow fans above. Every spoke gap, diamond, and teardrop is pierced individually, creating a mesmerizing lace of light. An expert carve with dozens of tiny openings; use a fine detail saw and rotate the pumpkin, not your wrist, on the curves.
IntermediateClockwork Cog Pumpkin Stencil
A chunky steampunk gear glowing around a solid crossbar, with three round rivet dots floating beside it like escaping sparks. The spaces between the gear teeth and the four windows inside the cog are cut through, while the cross-shaped bar stays attached to the pumpkin wall and holds everything together. Carve the small dots first, then the gear windows, and keep the crossbar at least a finger wide so the design stays rigid.
AdvancedThe Grid Grin Pumpkin Stencil
A grinning classic face where each triangle eye is split by a vertical bar of rind, the diamond nose sits between rows of small diamond cheek cutouts, and the huge smile is divided into a grid of rectangular tooth windows. Everything is pierced through, creating a lantern that flickers from dozens of openings. Rated hard because those rind bars and grid struts are fragile; cut away from each bar and never twist the blade near them.
AdvancedSpotted Glider Pumpkin Stencil
A diamond-bodied stingray glides diagonally across the pumpkin, its spotted back, curled wingtips, eye ridges, and long trailing tail all shaved into the skin with no pierced openings. The spots are left raised while the surrounding body is etched down to glow. Outline the ray first, then shave patiently around each spot; those raised dots are what sell the texture.
