Biden 2024 Campaign Lettering Pumpkin

From pumpkin to porch

1. 1

   Plan and transfer your stencil

Print BIDEN on the upper half and 2024 centered below, with a star on each side of the numbers. Tape the paper flat against the pumpkin, snipping the edges so it hugs the curve without wrinkling. Poke closely spaced dots along every outline with a pin or awl, including the inside of enclosed letters. Peel the paper and connect the dots lightly with a marker so you can see the full layout before cutting.

2. 2

Open the pumpkin and thin the wall

Cut a lid from the bottom or the back rather than the top so the stem stays intact as shown. An adult should handle all knife and saw work. Scoop the insides fully, then scrape the carving wall down to about one inch thick so the saw glides and the light shines through cleanly. A thinner wall makes those sharp star points far easier to control.

3. 3

   Saw the letters, bridges last

Start with the straightforward outer strokes of each letter using a fine carving saw held straight into the wall. On B, D, and the 0 in 2024, leave the small inner islands and their connecting bridges uncut for now so nothing shifts. Work letter by letter, keeping steady light pressure and letting the blade do the work. Remove each freed piece gently before moving on.

4. 4

Cut the two stars from both sides

For each five-point star, cut into every point from both sides rather than twisting the blade around the tip in one pass. Meet your cuts cleanly at the sharp outer points and at the inner valleys between them. Take your time pivoting so the points stay crisp and do not crack. Ease the star piece out only once all ten edges are fully cut.

5. 5

   Release the enclosed shapes

Now return to the saved centers inside B, D, and the 0. Carefully cut the thin bridges you left and lift out each inner island so those letters read correctly. Clean up any ragged edges with a small detail blade. Trim the inside back of each opening at a slight angle to let more light escape.

6. 6

   Light it and photograph

Set a battery LED or two inside, never a candle, so the letters and stars burn steady and bright. Blot the cut edges dry and rub a little petroleum jelly on them to slow browning. Photograph it at dusk or early morning when the sky glow balances the golden cutouts. Store it somewhere cool between showings to keep the crisp edges.
