Pick a wide, flat-faced pumpkin

Choose a pumpkin with a broad, fairly flat front so two rows of text sit level and easy to read. Wipe the surface clean and dry it. A taller-than-round shape gives you room to stack LET'S GO over BRANDON without crowding. Check that the front has no deep ribs running through where your letters will land.

Open the lid and hollow it out

Cut a lid from the bottom or the back rather than the top so the front face stays uninterrupted for your text. Scoop the insides and scrape the inner wall of the carving area down to about one inch thick. A thinner wall cuts cleaner and lets more light push through the letters. Save some flesh scraps to patch mistakes if needed.

Transfer your stencil squarely

Print your two-line stencil sized to fill the front, then tape it flat and level so the rows are parallel to the ground. Poke closely spaced dots along every letter edge with a pin or transfer tool. Pay attention to the inside shapes, the holes in the letters like O, R, A, D, and B, so those solid centers stay marked. Peel the paper and connect the dots lightly with a marker before you cut.

Cut the letters, big openings last

Use a fine detail saw and cut the thinner letters first, working from the center of the face outward. Keep steady straight strokes along each edge and gently push each finished letter piece inward to pop it free. Leave the widest openings like the O and D for last so the shell stays rigid while you work. Support the pumpkin in your lap or on a towel, and let an adult handle all the blades.

Pierce the apostrophe last

The small apostrophe in LET'S is the fragile piece, so save it for the very end. Switch to a linoleum cutter or fine detail blade instead of the main saw and ease it out with light pressure. Work slowly so the thin bridge of skin beside it does not crack. If it does tear, a toothpick pushed through from the inside can hold a repair piece.

Light it and set it at eye level

Drop in a battery LED puck or two so both rows glow evenly, and skip open flames near a porch. Place the pumpkin on a step so the text sits at reading height and both lines land at a glance. Step back into the yard to check the glow, then rotate or add a second light if one row reads dimmer. Wipe the cut edges dry to slow browning.
