   The enclosed center of the R and the middle island of the O will fall out if fully freed, so leave a thin rind bridge holding each one to the surrounding letter. A bridge about a quarter inch wide is nearly invisible when lit but keeps the piece anchored. Cut around these shapes carefully and stop short where the bridge sits. If a bridge cracks, pin it back with a toothpick.

   Finish the middle and bottom rows

   Move down to OR, then TREAT, cutting each letter fully so the whole message glows. Clean up ragged edges with a small detail blade for sharp corners. Push cutouts out from the inside to avoid chipping the front face. Wipe the letter edges so no stringy pulp blocks the light.

   Light it and photograph at dusk

   Set a battery LED or two inside for even, flicker-free light and skip open flame near the many cutouts. Place the pumpkin on a porch or driveway and view it from several car lengths to confirm the words read clearly. Shoot your photo right at sunset when the amber glow pops against the darker sky. Rotate the lights if one word looks dimmer than the others.
