Trim the back edges of each hole at an angle to let more light escape.

   Drop in a battery LED light, warm white for a natural glow, and set the pumpkin on a table at eye level. Since this design leans on daylight contrast too, try photographing it near a window during the day and again lit at night. Wipe cut edges dry and rub a little petroleum jelly on them to slow browning. Rotate the light until the peeled bands read clearly against the dark face.
