Take your time on the face and paws, since small marks read clearly once lit.

   For the strongest highlights, such as a glint in the eye or the lit edge of the muzzle, shave down until the wall is very thin, or make a tiny true cutout. Do these small, bright spots last so the surrounding shaded areas stay supported while you work. Keep any full cutouts small and few, since the design relies on soft glow rather than open holes. Step back often to check the balance of light.

   Light it and photograph

   Set a battery LED puck inside and face the tiger toward your viewing spot. Warm white light makes the peeled fur look golden and the dark stripes pop. Photograph at dusk with the porch lights low so the shading contrast shows. Mist the cut surfaces and wrap the pumpkin in plastic in the fridge overnight to keep the shading crisp.
