How to carve a patriotic pumpkin stencil

Stars are five short straight cuts meeting at points; finish every point with a knife. Stripes are long straight slits cut with a fine saw, alternating cut and uncut. An eagle is a silhouette cut in one piece with the feathers scraped. Keep stars at least an inch apart in a field.

Patriotic pumpkins line a walk on Veterans Day or the Fourth. Three pumpkins lit red, white, and blue in a row is the classic arrangement.

Questions

Patriotic stencil questions

How do I carve a clean star?+

Poke the five points with a pin, connect them with a ruler and marker, cut each straight edge with a fine saw, and finish every point from both sides with a craft knife.

Can I carve a pumpkin for the Fourth of July?+

Yes. Pie pumpkins and pale squashes are available in summer. A patriotic carving with a red or blue LED looks great at a July cookout.

How long do patriotic pumpkin stencils take to carve?+

Check the individual stencil's carving guide for its time estimate. Preparation, pumpkin size, wall thickness and your experience affect the total; difficulty alone does not determine carving time.

Which patriotic pumpkin stencils are the easiest?+

57 of the 112 are easy, 33 of the 112 are intermediate, 20 of the 112 are hard, 2 of the 112 are expert. Compare the difficulty labels and carving guides to choose a design.

Pick a patriotic design, print it, and light up the porch.
