The Christmas Tree pumpkin stencil is a free printable PDF template. Print it, tape the pattern on, and trace it onto your pumpkin. A stylized Christmas tree built from sweeping, wave-like branch layers fills this seasonal pumpkin stencil, its ribboning boughs stacked vertically and topped by an eight-pointed star cut-out. The flowing branch shapes are pierced through, glowing warmly when lit, while the narrow gaps between layers stay solid and define the tree's form. Carve the star tip-by-tip before cutting the large branch sweeps, so the fragile star points have the full pumpkin wall behind them for support. It makes a fun jack-o'-lantern design for Halloween night. It is rated Beginner-friendly. Estimated time: 60-90 minutes. Actual time varies with preparation, pumpkin size and experience. Larger shapes and shorter cuts. An adult should handle sharp carving tools.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resize this stencil?βΎ
Yes. The PDF is vector so it scales cleanly. Print the pattern at 100% for a 7 to 10 inch pumpkin, 130% for 11 to 13 inch, or 150% for a giant. Use your printer's "Fit to page" or "Custom scale" setting.
What kind of paper works best?βΎ
Standard 20 lb letter or A4 printer paper is fine. Heavier paper is harder to bend around the pumpkin curve. If your printer supports it, set the quality to 'best' so the lines are crisp.
How long will the carved pumpkin last?βΎ
Usually 5 to 10 days. Coat all cut surfaces with petroleum jelly and store the pumpkin somewhere cool overnight. Avoid direct sun. Battery LED pumpkin lights produce no heat and help it last longer.
Can I sell pumpkins carved with this stencil?βΎ
Yes, the carved pumpkin you make is yours. The license covers personal and small-scale commercial carving (selling carved pumpkins, photographing them, posting on social). You may not resell the PDF file itself.
What if my printer doesn't print the whole stencil?βΎ
Set 'Page scaling' to 'Fit' in the print dialog and uncheck 'Auto-rotate'. If it still cuts off, the design includes 0.25" of safe-area margin so a small crop won't ruin it.
How to carve this stencil
This is a cut-through stencil: the dark numbered regions on the printable pattern are the pieces you remove, and everything white stays attached. The numbers give you the safest carving order, and the steps below walk through them one by one. Plan on about 60-90 minutes from print to candle.
Set up first. Print the PDF at 100% scale on letter or A4 paper. Cut the lid at an angle, scoop the pumpkin clean, and thin the carving wall to about 1 inch where the design will sit. Tape the pattern on (snip small darts in the paper so it hugs the curve) and transfer every outline by poking dots along the lines, about one every 1/8 inch. Peel the paper away and carve dot to dot with short, straight strokes.
Carving order
- Carve the star topper. Cut region 1 first. Approach each of the eight points from both sides and preserve the white space below the star so it stays separate from the tree.
- Follow the upper ribbon turns. Begin region 2 at the small top turn. Follow the winding edges downward, keeping each white wedge between the ribbon folds intact. Make short cuts and avoid forcing the saw through tight turns.
- Complete the widening lower tree. Continue region 2 through the broad middle and lower ribbon curves. Support the surrounding white wedges from inside as you cut beside their long pointed ends.
- Release the ribbon opening. Finish the lowest sweeping curve and its upturned right tip. Leave a short outer-edge tab until last, support the large plug and sever the tab gently. The white gaps remain connected through the sides.
Clear loose fibers out of each opening as you go, and never twist or pry the blade against the shell; back it out and recut instead. When every region is open, wipe the cut edges dry and drop in a battery LED puck.

Beginner-friendlyEvergreen Glow Pumpkin Stencil
A stately three-tier pine tree with swooping boughs and a short trunk base, cut fully through so the whole evergreen glows like a lantern. The layered branches create six pointed tips where each tier sweeps upward. Cut from the trunk upward one tier at a time, and slow down at every branch point so the tips stay sharp instead of rounding off.
Beginner-friendlyHaunted Hollow Tree Pumpkin Stencil
A gnarled bare tree glows from a wide split trunk up through forked, twisting branches, the classic haunted-forest silhouette in reverse. The entire tree shape is cut through as one connected opening, so light traces every crooked limb. It rates easy because the cuts are bold, but the branch tips narrow quickly; cut from each tip back toward the trunk and remove the waste in small pieces so no limb snaps off.
Beginner-friendlyIsland Breeze Pumpkin Stencil
A tropical palm tree with a gently curved trunk and five broad fronds fanning from the crown, carved as one connected glowing silhouette. The whole tree is pierced through in a single piece, so the trunk and fronds shine together like an island sunset. This easy design has one caution: the frond tips are the thinnest cuts, so start at the trunk base and work upward, saving the delicate leaf points for your final, gentlest strokes.
Beginner-friendlyWhispering Pines Pumpkin Stencil
Three tiered evergreen trees of different heights stand side by side, each with a short trunk, forming a tidy little glowing forest. Every tree is cut through as its own complete silhouette, and since none of the shapes touch, each cutout releases cleanly on its own. It is an easy, satisfying carve; start with the tall center tree, cut each stepped branch layer from the outside tip inward, and finish with the little trunks.
Expert / ProChristmas Morning Glow Pumpkin Stencil
A fully decorated Christmas tree rises from a cluster of wrapped presents, complete with beaded garland swags, patterned ornaments, and a star on top. The entire scene is skin-shave shading with no pierced openings; the tree and gifts are peeled pale while the garland beads and ornament patterns stay dark and raised. Shave the broad tree tiers first, then switch to a fine tool for the garland dots and bows.
IntermediateDesert Sundown Pumpkin Stencil
A tall saguaro cactus with two upraised arms stands over a desert floor of scrub grass, scattered stones, and a distant ridge, with a round sun hanging in the sky. The whole southwestern scene is skin-shave shading: each element is peeled to pale flesh while the pumpkin wall stays sealed. At medium difficulty, peel the big cactus trunk in long vertical strokes to mimic its natural ribs, then add the small ground details last.
