Easy Pumpkin Stencils
Easy pumpkin stencils are built from a handful of big, bold cuts: a pair of eyes, a nose, a mouth, or one strong silhouette. They are the patterns to reach for if this is your first pumpkin, if you are carving with a small kitchen knife, or if you have twenty pumpkins to get through before the party starts.

Carving guide
How to carve an easy pumpkin stencil
Print the pattern, tape it flat against the smoothest side of the pumpkin, and poke a dot every quarter inch along each line. Cut the smallest shapes first and the biggest shape last, so the wall stays sturdy while you work. Push each cut piece out from the inside with a finger rather than pulling it from the front.
Tools
A serrated pumpkin saw from a dollar-store kit, a scoop, and a marker are all an easy stencil needs. A paring knife works too, but the little saws are safer and easier to steer around curves.
Which pumpkin
Pick a medium pumpkin with one flat, blemish-free face. Easy patterns fill the whole side, so a round shape with a wide front looks best.
Because every opening is large, easy designs throw a lot of light. A simple ghost, bat, or grinning face reads clearly from the sidewalk, which is exactly why the classic jack-o'-lantern face has never gone out of style.
Questions
Easy Pumpkin Stencils questions
How long does an easy pumpkin stencil take?+
Most easy stencils take 20 to 40 minutes from first cut to lit pumpkin, plus ten minutes to scoop. The simplest faces can be done in fifteen.
Can I carve an easy stencil with a kitchen knife?+
Yes. Easy patterns have no thin bridges or tiny holes, so a small paring knife handles them. A serrated pumpkin saw is still easier on curves.
What makes a stencil easy?+
Few cuts, large openings, and no delicate areas between them. If a shape is at least an inch across and there is plenty of pumpkin around it, it belongs on this page.
Are easy stencils good for a first-time carver?+
They are the best place to start. Pick a single face or silhouette, carve it once, and you will have the feel for the saw before moving up to medium designs.
Are these easy stencils free to print?+
Yes. Each one is a free printable PDF sized for letter or A4 paper. Print at 100% and it will fit a standard medium pumpkin.
