Clean and dry the surface

Wipe the front of the pumpkin with a damp cloth and let it dry fully. A dry, dust free surface helps acrylic paint grip instead of beading up. Pick the flattest, roundest face for your design so the ball reads as a circle. Keep the stem intact since this pumpkin stays whole.

Sketch the layout in pencil

Lightly draw a large center circle for the baseball, then two long crossed bats behind it running corner to corner. A pencil guideline keeps the bat angles symmetrical and the ball centered. Step back and check the balance before you commit. Pencil wipes away or hides under paint, so do not press hard.

Base coat the bats

Paint the two bats first in a light tan or wood color, tapering each into a rounded handle knob. Let this layer dry, then add a slightly darker tan streak down each bat for a wood grain look. Paint the red stitches and display

Add two curved rows of short red dashes on the left and right sides of the ball to mimic the classic stitching.
