Cut the arm outlines and the open sky between arm and trunk last, because those openings remove the most supporting wall. Go gently here so the standing trunk keeps its strength.

   Light it and photograph

   Drop in one or two bright LED lights, since candles are a fire risk and will not throw even light across a scene this wide. Aim the light toward the sky openings so the sun and horizon read warmest. Set the pumpkin at dusk on your porch and check from a few feet back to confirm the saguaro reads as a clean silhouette. Touch up any grooves that look muddy, then snap your photo while the sky is still deep blue.
