   Open the background around the arms

   With the fingers done, cut away the larger areas between and around the arms that make up the glowing oval interior. Move from the center outward and support the pieces with your free hand as they loosen so nothing tears the delicate finger tips. Check that the center pillar stays connected top and bottom, since it is what makes the design read as two separate hands. Save the very top and bottom of the oval for the final cuts.

   Cut the oval border last

   Now trace and open the full oval edge, connecting all the background you already removed into one clean shape. Doing this last keeps the pumpkin strong while you handle the fussier interior work. Angle the blade slightly outward as you cut so more light spills through the opening. Go gently near the fingertips, which are now fragile.

   Light it and photograph

   Set a bright LED puck or string light inside, never a candle, since the open oval and thin wall can scorch. Place it low and slightly behind the center pillar so the arms throw strong shadows. Set the pumpkin at eye level in a dim room and shoot from straight on to keep the oval symmetrical. A little tissue paper behind the opening can soften and even out the glow.
