This map keeps your transitions smooth instead of patchy. Double check the plan under a lamp before you start scraping.

   Scrape the shading from light to dark

   Use a ribbon or loop tool to remove the outer skin in your highlight zones first, scraping deepest where you want the most glow, such as the raised hand and blade. Then work the medium zones with a shallower touch so they read as soft gray. Blend the edges between depths with light passes so no hard lines appear. Go slow and check often against a light, because you can always remove more but cannot add flesh back.

   Add fine detail and any true cutouts

   Use a small detail knife to sharpen the skull's eye sockets, the scythe handle, and the crisp folds of the robe. If you want a few pinpoints of full brightness, cut all the way through only in tiny spots, leaving thin bridges of skin so the robe and blade stay structurally strong. Save these full cutouts for the very end so the face does not weaken while you work. Keep the raised arm connected with plenty of surrounding flesh.

   Light it and photograph

   Drop in a battery LED light, never a candle, since the peeled shading is thin and the enclosed room deserves a safe flame-free glow. Warm white LEDs bring out the orange tones best. Dim the room, place the pumpkin at eye level, and shoot from straight on to capture the gray gradient of the robe. A light mist of water on the scraped areas can revive the glow if it dries out.
