   Use a lino or ribbon gouge to peel just the skin off the crescent moon area, the rounded hill, and the bare tree so those zones glow soft orange. Keep the tree branches connected to the trunk and leave thin skin bridges where limbs cross so nothing snaps. Vary how deep you peel to hint at texture on the hill. Leave the surrounding sky untouched so the moon pops.

   Relief carve the house walls and roof

   Carve the house body and roofline at a shallow to medium depth, removing skin and a little flesh so the structure glows dimmer than the windows will. Keep the crooked roof edges and the leaning walls, since the tilt is what sells the spooky mood. Leave narrow ridges of skin to suggest boards and the chimney. This mid layer is what gives the scene its storybook depth.

   Cut the windows and door last

   Now cut the window panes and door fully through with a small saw or detail blade. Leave the thin muntin bars between panes in place as bridges so each window keeps its cross shape and does not collapse. Cut the small fence gaps through as well for a few bright slivers. Doing these openings last means the wall stayed rigid while you carved everything else.

   Light it and photograph at dusk

   Drop in a bright LED puck or a string of warm LEDs, never a candle, since the interior detail traps heat and a flame can scorch the thin walls. Angle the light low so it streams out the windows and door. Shoot at blue hour like the photo, with the garden dark behind, to catch the glow. Mist the cut edges with water and refrigerate between showings to keep it fresh.
