Clean and dry the pumpkin

Wipe the surface with a damp cloth and dry it completely. Any moisture under the paint will cause peeling later, so give it at least twenty minutes of air-dry time. Remove the stem only if it gets in the way of your design placement.

Sketch the eye and doorway motifs

Use a soft pencil to lightly outline Seek's large oval eye and any doorway frame shapes you want to include. Keep the eye centered on the widest part of the pumpkin so it reads from a distance. Erase and redraw until the proportions feel right before picking up a brush.

Lay the black base coat

Fill the entire eye area and any dark background panels with black acrylic, using a flat brush for even coverage. Apply two thin coats rather than one thick one to avoid streaking. Let each coat dry fully, about fifteen minutes, before moving on.

Add white and red eye detail

Paint the white iris over the dry black base, keeping edges sharp with a round detail brush. Once the white dries, add the red accent rings or veins in thin controlled strokes. A steady hand matters here more than speed, so rest your wrist on the pumpkin while you work.

Apply gloss medium to the eye only

Brush a small amount of gloss medium or dimensional glaze over just the painted eye, not the surrounding rind. This gives the eye a wet, raised look that reads as unsettling even in daylight. Let it cure for at least an hour before handling.

Seal and display

Once everything is fully dry, spray a light coat of matte acrylic sealer over the whole pumpkin, avoiding the gloss eye area if you want to preserve its sheen. Set the pumpkin on a dark surface where the black design contrasts with the orange rind peeking through. An outdoor spotlight or porch light aimed at the eye area creates a dramatic nighttime effect.
