Painted Sage Green T. Rex Pumpkin with Footprint Dots

Clean and dry the pumpkin

Wipe the pumpkin with a damp cloth and allow it to air dry. A clean, oil-free surface is essential for acrylic adhesion. Place it on a folded towel so it stays steady while you paint.

Sketch the T. rex outline

Lightly pencil an upright T. rex profile with a broad head, two short arms, two sturdy legs, and a long tail. Keep all proportions broad and chunky rather than thin. Mark the mustard belly patch position on the lower torso and the three small footprint dot positions near the base.

Apply the sage-green base layer

Fill the entire T. rex body with sage-green acrylic using a flat brush. Apply two coats for solid coverage, letting the first dry before the second. Keep the body edge clean against the orange rind. Let the final coat dry completely before adding any detail.

Paint the mustard belly patch

Use a medium round brush to add a broad mustard oval on the lower chest and belly of the dinosaur. Keep the edge between green and mustard soft rather than razor sharp, which looks more natural on a painted design.

Add cream teeth, the black eye, and mauve footprint dots

Paint small cream triangular teeth along the top jaw with a fine liner brush. Place a single black eye dot on the upper head. Then use the tip of the liner brush or the round end of a toothpick to add three small mauve footprint dots below the feet.

Seal and display indoors

Once all layers are fully dry, apply matte acrylic sealer spray in a light, even coat. Display on a dining table beside a window for soft natural light. The intact pumpkin will hold its shape and color for the entire season.
