Keep every petal attached to the brim so nothing breaks off.

   Save the one true opening for the end so the pumpkin stays sturdy while you work. Draw a small triangle in the center of the face and cut straight through with a poker saw, easing the piece out gently. This single cutout will be the brightest spot when lit, so keep its edges clean. Once it is out, tidy any ragged straw ends with a light pass of the gouge.

   Light it and photograph on the porch

   Drop in a warm white LED puck or string light and set the pumpkin where you can view it both lit and unlit. Because the design is nearly all relief, it looks great in daylight on the front steps and glows softly at dusk. Style it with mums or gourds for a harvest scene. If the straw dries out over a few days, a wipe of vegetable oil can revive the texture.
