How to carve a kawaii pumpkin stencil

The eyes carry a kawaii design. Cut the large eye shape, then leave one or two small uncut ovals inside as highlights; those highlights are what make the eyes sparkle when lit. The mouth is usually a tiny curve, so use a craft knife and cut it last so it does not stretch.

Kawaii pumpkins look best indoors or in a window where the fine eye highlights are visible up close. Group a few small pumpkins with different expressions for a character set.

How do I carve the sparkle highlights in kawaii eyes?+

Cut the eye as a big oval but leave a small oval of pumpkin uncut near the top, attached to the edge. When lit, the dark highlight against the glowing eye reads as a sparkle.

Are kawaii stencils easy?+

Most are Easy or Medium. The shapes are simple, but the little highlight ovals and tiny mouths need a careful hand with a craft knife.

How long do kawaii pumpkin stencils take to carve?+

Check the individual stencil's carving guide for its time estimate. Preparation, pumpkin size, wall thickness and your experience affect the total; difficulty alone does not determine carving time.
