   Shave the house and walls

   Use a loop or ribbon tool to peel away the skin inside the house shape, the tower, and the ground, exposing the pale flesh underneath. Work in thin, even passes so the surface stays smooth and the color is consistent. Leave the small window squares and the fence posts as raised skin so they stay dark against the glowing walls. Keep thin details like fence rails connected to their posts so nothing crumbles.

   Deepen for a dim inner glow

   For the door and a couple of windows you want brightest, shave those spots thinner or cut a small opening if you plan to light it. Cut any full openings last, once all the shallow work is done, so the face stays sturdy. Add your LED access hole in the back now and drop in a battery light. Test the look in a dark room and thin any areas that stay too dark.

   Clean up and photograph

   Trim stray edges with your detail knife and gently smooth the shaved flesh with your loop tool for even color. Rub a thin coat of petroleum jelly on the cut surfaces to slow drying and browning. Set the pumpkin on a porch step in daylight to show off the skin-versus-flesh contrast, then snap a night shot with the LED on. Store it somewhere cool between showings to keep it fresh.
