   Now cut the teardrop shapes falling from the beak, working from the top drop down to the pool. Cut each drop fully through so it glows bright, keeping them separate and evenly spaced. Finish with the molten pool at the base, cutting it as one wider opening so it pools with light. Doing these small cuts last means the shell was strong while you did the heavy work.

   Light it and photograph after sunset

   Drop in a battery LED, and use a warm amber or flickering orange bulb to make the pool and drops look like they are smoldering. Never use a candle, especially with thin cut areas near the base. Set the pumpkin on a porch step at dusk and take your photo when the sky is deep blue so the glow stands out. Rub a little petroleum jelly on cut edges to slow drying if you want it to last.
