Black Cat Pumpkin Stencils

Black cat pumpkin stencils are the most classic Halloween animal: arched backs, bristling fur, glowing eyes, and curled tails that pop against a lit pumpkin. The cat is usually the uncut shape and the glow comes from around it.

How to carve a black cat pumpkin stencil

Most black cat designs are reverse silhouettes: you cut away the background and leave the cat as solid pumpkin. Cut the background as one or two big pieces, keeping the cat attached to the rim at the feet and tail. The eyes are the only cuts inside the cat; make them small and slanted.

Set a black cat pumpkin on a fence post or railing where the silhouette shows against the sky. It pairs with the witch and moon designs.

Questions

Black Cat stencil questions

Why is the cat uncut on a black cat stencil?+

Because a black cat is a dark shape. Cutting the background instead leaves the cat as a solid silhouette against the glow, which reads as black from the street.

How do I stop the cat piece from falling into the pumpkin?+

Leave it attached to the uncut rim at the paws and the tail tip, and cut the background pieces small enough to push out without stressing those joins.

How long do black cat pumpkin stencils take to carve?+

Check the individual stencil's carving guide for its time estimate. Preparation, pumpkin size, wall thickness and your experience affect the total; difficulty alone does not determine carving time.

Which black cat pumpkin stencils are the easiest?+

8 of the 18 are easy, 5 of the 18 are intermediate, 4 of the 18 are hard, 1 of the 18 are expert. Compare the difficulty labels and carving guides to choose a design.

Pick a black cat design, print it, and light up the porch.
