Vampire styles to try

Fanged vampire mouth

Just the mouth: a wide grin with two long fangs. Cut the mouth as one opening and leave the fangs as uncut pumpkin hanging from the top lip, each at least a quarter inch wide at the base. It takes ten minutes and it is the most recognizable vampire design here.

Cartoon and baby vampire

A round-faced count with a bow tie, a little vampire with big eyes, or a waving cartoon count. These are friendly faces with two small fangs added, so carve them like a regular jack-o'-lantern and leave two triangles of pumpkin hanging from the top lip.

Dracula portrait

A face with a widow's peak, arched brows, a high collar and fangs. Cut the eyes, nose highlight and mouth through, and scrape the cheeks hollow so the face looks gaunt. The collar and cape are big dark areas, so leave them uncut and scrape their edges.

Vampire pumpkin carving FAQ

What is the easiest vampire pumpkin to carve?
A fanged mouth on its own. Cut a wide smile and leave two triangles of pumpkin hanging from the upper lip as fangs. Add two slanted eyes above it and you have a vampire face in three cuts.
How do I carve fangs so they do not break?
Fangs are teeth left inside a mouth opening, so make each one at least a quarter inch wide at the base and cut the mouth around them rather than trying to cut the fang itself. Never push a piece of pumpkin out past a fang.
How do I carve a widow's peak hairline?
Scrape the forehead down to the flesh and leave the hair as unscraped skin above it, with a point dipping down in the center. The scraped forehead glows pale and the dark hair frames it.
What light works for a vampire pumpkin?
Red. A red LED behind the mouth makes the fangs look blood-tinted and gives the eyes a glow. For a Dracula portrait, red in the mouth and white behind the face works even better if you can fit two lights.
Are the vampire pumpkin stencils free?
Yes. Enter your email on a linked stencil page to unlock its free printable PDF. Print on letter or A4 paper and adjust the scale to your pumpkin. Related stencils may differ from the inspiration images in this gallery.
